Safety Kits – Necessity For Car Owners

At some point, you will experience a car breakdown or mishap. This can be a bigger problem especially if it happens in a remote area where few motorists pass by. It will be very difficult to cope with the situation if you do not carry even the most basic safety kit in your back compartment. Build the habit of bringing along emergency gear particularly for long-distance travels.

Keep the following concerns in mind:

• There are pre-packed safety kits that can be purchased in most auto supply shops. Yet these are not always complete so it is practical to create a list of these essentials. You can purchase the items that are not included in the package. Review the things one by one. Blankets and ice scrapers are necessary for winter but not during the summer season.

  • Some of the products in safety kits do not last for eternity due to extreme temperatures. Thus, make it a point to check the contents and see if any of this need to be replaced. Of course, there are certain essentials that should not be stored in the compartment such as the charger for your mobile phones. Make sure that your cellular phone is fully charged before embarking on your long road trip.

• Make sure that you have an emergency first aid kit as well. This should contain the fundamental items for medical emergencies such as gauze bandage, cotton, antiseptics and important medicines. You need to be prepared for unforeseen exigencies. First aid supplies can save the life of a person. Try to purchase a manual so you will be familiar with its uses. Check your first aid bag on a regular basis change those which are non-operational or not there.

• Bring along your car manual as well so you can refer to instructions in changing tires, trouble-shooting batteries, checking the essential fluids, dealing with battery problems and other road issues. Pliers, screwdrivers and adjustable wrenches are the basic tools that you will need. Likewise, include electrical tape, funnel, several rags, tire jack, motor oil, brake fluids, transmission fluid, and anti-freeze chemical.

The car safety kit generally consists of flashlights, canned food and drinking water, working gloves, jumper cables, basic repair tools, can opener, matches and candles, spare clothing, flares, and blankets.

• Familiarize yourself with all the items in your safety kit so you will not panic during emergency situations. Review the items every six months for you to find out if some of the items need to be changed or upgraded. Food and water are among the things that have to be replaced regularly.

It is the primary responsibility of the car owner to make sure that this safety kit is always available. Emergencies can happen when you least expect it so it pays to be prepared at all times. There is nothing better than being one step ahead of possible situations.
